What is the Remote Fiber Monitoring System?

The Remote Fiber Monitoring System (RFMS) by JMV LPS Limited is an intelligent, automated solution for continuous optical fiber cable health monitoring. It detects faults — including fiber cuts, bends, splice losses, and signal degradation — and sends instant alerts via SMS or email to maintenance teams.

RFMS operates 24/7 on 48V DC and is deployed across telecom backbone networks, Indian Railways, smart power grids, and other critical infrastructure where fiber failure is not an option.

RFMS significantly reduces Mean Time to Repair (MTTR) and total maintenance costs — improving the reliability and availability of your optical fiber infrastructure.

Features of RFMS

  • 24x7 Real-Time Monitoring - Continuous supervision of both dark and live fibers.
  • Accurate Fault Location - Pinpoints exact location of fiber breaks or degradation using OTDR.
  • Instant Alerts - SMS / Email notifications to maintenance teams for quick response.
  • Maintenance - Monitors fiber health, and avoids service disruptions.
  • Integration Capability - Comes with own NMS, can be integrated with Railway Systems.
  • Data & Reports - Provides detailed statistical, historical, and real-time reporting.

Monitoring Methods: Active Fiber vs. Dark Fiber Monitoring

Active Fiber Monitoring:

  • 1625 nm (L-band, non-intrusive) is used.

  • A special WDM coupler is used to separate the monitoring wavelength from the traffic wavelength.

  • This ensures that live communication is not disturbed (signaling data remains safe).

Dark Fiber Monitoring:

  • 1550 nm or 1625 nm wavelength is used.

  • High-power pulses allow detailed testing since no traffic is disturbed
